Fraunhofer-Institute of Optronics, System Technologies and Image Exploitation – IOSB

The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft is a leading organisation for institutes of applied research in Germany, undertaking contract research on behalf of the industry, the service sector and the government. The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft is actively involved in industrial consortia seeking technical solutions to improve the competitiveness of the European industry. The Fraunhofer-Institute of Optronics, System Technologies and Image Exploitation (IOSB) provides, among others, sustainable solutions of advanced control, monitoring and diagnosis systems mainly for industrial partners. IOSB has many years of experience in the design, implementation, integration and optimisation of complex fault diagnosis and fault tolerant control systems for distributed applications using modern model and knowledge-based methods. Advanced information fusion techniques are used in surveillance applications as well as monitoring and control systems.

Relevant project experience:
The department "Information Management and Production Control" within the business area "Energy, Water and Environment" leads the IOSB involvement in TRIDEC. Its focus is on content, community and knowledge management (based on IOSB's product WebGenesis®), integrated thematic information systems, software platforms for distributed simulation applications as well as IT consulting and project management support. Major recent projects have dealt with the implementation of large environmental information systems and with generic service architectures for environmental risk applications. IOSB has over 25 years' experience in the development of simulation environments and analytical techniques to study the performance behaviour of networks. The development of services based on information fusion and ontologies for sensor based networks is the subject of several major EU projects, such as: FP6 ORCHESTRA, FP6 SANY, FP7 GIGAS, FP7 PESCaDO and FP7 EO2HEAVEN, as well as the German national project THESEUS on ontology management and semantic applications.

Specific role in TRIDEC:
IOSB leads the work package on Services Orchestration and Decision-Support Workflows (WP5), and contributes to the Architecture and Core Components (WP3) and Knowledge Base work packages (WP4).
